1) Do Aerobic AND Anaerobic Exercise

Running and swimming are both aerobic training, and while they help to burn fat, they’re not effective in gaining muscles. Having a lean muscle mass can boost your metabolism to burn calories and make you look more toned. If you don’t see any results after running for months, try building an anaerobic base by doing weight lifting, squatting, and sit-ups.

2) You’re Not Exercising For The Right Amount Of Time

Train for at least 20 minutes to an hour maximum when you do aerobic training such as running and swimming. If the duration is too short, the body won’t be ready to burn fat, but training for too long could lead to losing muscles. Everyone’s body is different when it comes to building an anaerobic base. You should stop training before you feel like you’re stretching yourself too thin.

3) What You Eat Also Matters

It’s easy to fall into the trap of rewarding yourself with food post workout. It’s important to remember not to indulge in mindless eating. Eat food that's made with less oil and sugar, drink more water and have more food that's high in proteins such as chicken breasts and salmon. Cut down moderately on carbohydrates such as rice and bread. Taking fat-burning supplements before exercising also helps to shed off excess fat in the body.
