Power Up Your Day!

We all face the occasional morning sluggishness, a midday slump or day-end wipe-out. Here are 5 quick tips to getting energized!

1. Wake Up with Water
A freezing cold shower in the morning will really get you going! Yes, it’ll shock your body awake, with your heart rate, blood flow and oxygen intake automatically rising as your body tries to get you warmer. Interestingly, this makes you feel sprightlier and happier. Water is also energizing when you drink it. You feel fatigued when your body is dehydrated, in the morning when you wake up, or partway through the day. A tall glass of water with a squeeze of lemon will raise your energy meter!

2. Pump Iron
We don’t mean hit the weights at the gym, though exercise certainly does boost energy. Make sure you’re consuming sufficient iron in your diet as it’s an essential component in red blood cells, which transports oxygen throughout your body. Spinach, broccoli, dried apricots, kidney beans and whole-wheat bread are good sources of iron.

3. Dance Moves
If you’re nodding off at your desk, put on your headphones, pick an upbeat playlist, and turn up the volume! Research shows that loud music boosts energy and improves your mood.

4. Grab a Snack
As athletes know, bananas are almost instant sources of energy. Snacks that contain protein and complex carbohydrates will recharge you quickly without an energy crash hours later. Try: a handful of raisins and nuts; peanut butter on whole-grain toast; berries with plain with plain Greek yogurt.

5. Add a Supplements
Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is an essential nutrient our body requires for energy production in our cells. Our body’s production of CoQ10 declines with age or disease, so oral supplements and skincare product with Q10 can help raise your body’s and skin’s energy levels. Tip: CoQ10 is fat soluble, and is absorbed up to three times faster when taken with food.
